Additional The Giving Tree Information

"Once there was a tree . . . and she loved a little boy." So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein.

Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk . . . and the tree was happy. But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave.

This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation. Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages that offers an affecting interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another’s capacity to love in return.

What Customers Say About The Giving Tree:

I only liked the story but the condition of CD was horrible so I do not want to recommend this one. I used to love this book so I bought this for my children.

A must have for all. This book provides such a valuable lesson in such a simple way.

What I find kind of disturbing are the negative comments of this book. As a student of psychology, I can say that interpretations stem from some personal perspective that one relates to in one way or another.

I, like many others out there, see the positive in a story that was written for a light-hearted audience. So I honestly hope that the people who perceive this story as having a negative message have a clear rationale for doing so.

After reading a few reviews for this book, I thought I'd like to share my perspective. Having heard from both sides stating that the book was either a story that depicted selfishness or caring, I personally see it as a caring story.

The giving tree lives on in heart. Having read this when I was a young kid, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

Honestly, I believe the magic of this book comes from its ability to present a story in which the audience can choose to interpret it however he or she wishes.

I loved this book as a kid and just bought it for my sister's upcoming baby.

This book is Shel Silverstein's masterpiece. I have known and loved this book for as long as I can remember, and I ordered this copy as a gift for a friend. Even though she is an adult, and this is a children's book, she was touched by its message of how to care for someone and be cared for in return.just as I have always been.
